Headed out on the town? Free designated-driver service to be offered Saturday night in Charlotte

Date Posted: Sat, Dec 5 2015,
Planning to celebrate this weekend's ACC championship game with a few cocktails? Or perhaps just wanting to enjoy a night out in Charlotte?

BeMyDD is here to help.

In the midst of its 24-city Designated Driver Tour, the Los Angeles-based driver service will offer free rides to people in Charlotte on Saturday night. In order to use the service, passengers need to download the BeMyDD smartphone app on their iPhone or Android device, and then request a free pickup from any location within a 50-mile radius of the city center, according to a news release.

A team of drivers will arrive at the requested location. One of the drivers will take the passenger and their vehicle home — and then will be picked up by the other driver. The service is available from 9 p.m. Saturday until 2 a.m. Sunday and will operate on a first-come, first-serve basis.
BeMyDD has teamed up with Jack Daniel's Gentleman Jack Whiskey and Total Wine & More to offer the program, designed to lower the rate of drunk-driving deaths and promote social responsibility.

"Social responsibility is a huge priority for us," BeMyDD President and CEO Arthur Simanovsky said in the release. "We're always looking for ways to make finding a designated driver easier than getting behind the wheel."

BeMyDD currently operates in 76 markets, including Charlotte, and targets customers living in the suburbs who don't want to pay high taxi rates for a ride into the city. It provides an hourly personal-driver service in addition to event transportation.
